Shipping upgrade and international shipping for auction item
Summary: beahicke_0 is seeking advice about upgrading shipping for an auction item and adding insurance while ensuring compliance with eBay's policies. They also inquire about international shipping responsibilities and costs. jacbarcollectibles clarifies that domestic shipping upgrades are permissible as long as the carrier is not changed, and mentions that international shipping is already set up through eBay's International Shipping program, with some limitations depending on the destination country.
I have an auction item where I realize I put the base ground shipping with free shipping but I was willing to pay for in upgrade in shipping and add insurance myself, I assumed customer would be fine with this but just wanted to make sure ebay would be good with that as long as customer was, also been asked about international shipping and haven’t shipped internationally before, if I agreed to international shipping am I on the hook for extra cost or am I allowed to then negotiate shipping cost when I now have to use an international shipping method? Thanks

MentorJul 11, 2026 at 2:33 PMAs far as the domestic shipping you can use a faster shipping method as long as you do not change the shipping carrier. Looking at your listing it is already set up for International shipping through the eBay International Shipping program. You would ship to the US Shipping Hub and eBay will take it from there. Keep in mind that not all countries are covered by the program for this item.
