I recently sold a remote-control car to a buyer in Germany. She paid for shipping through the ebay international program. A couple of weeks later the package was returned to me with the only reason I have been able to find is that there were issues. I cannot imagine a toy being prohibited in Germany. I have contacted ebay shipping and they have been literally no help in providing an explanation. I tried contacting DHL but when I give them a tracking number they say there is no such package. Buyer would really like to receive the car and I really do not want to have to refund her the price of car and eat the $73.00 postage costs. When I listed the item it showed that it could be shipped to Germany. Is there something I have done wrong? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. May have to quit selling internationally if this can happen.

Mentor4 months ago@carolb5450 The buyer should file a not received refund request case and eBay will refund the buyer out of their pocket as long as the item safely made it to the hub your job is done as a seller.
Europe does have MANY restrictions on toys due to their safety regulations. I would not try to reship the item.

OP4 months agoThe buyer has opened an item not received case, ebay is wanting me to refund the whole amount including shipping. Is this how it is supposed to be?

Mentor4 months ago@carolb5450 As long as the item safely reached the hub then eBay refunds the buyer. Please share the item number of the listing so I can see if you had other shipping methods on it.
Are you sure that shipped to the HUB in Illinois?
For example this item had Priority Shipping in addition to the eBay International Shipping Program. IF you shipped with Priority Mail then YOU refund the buyer and file an insurance claim. https://www.ebay.com/itm/257468378451

OP4 months agoThank you so much for your assistance. I wish Ebay reps were as helpful. The item number is 287316103655. I did ship to the hub but also had other options for the buyer to choose from. Easyship ORD in Glendale Heights IL returned the item to me. I have been doing ebay for a long time. Used to be easy to ship to Germany as I had a customer who would regularly by from us. unfortunately those days are gone. Just seems odd to me that if the item is prohibited in Germany why was I allowed to sell to a German customer. Thanks again!

OP4 months agoForgot to ask. In your response it sounded as though they would cover the complete refund or will it just be the cost of shipping. Which I would be happy with. Thanks!

Mentor4 months ago@carolb5450 The ONLY shipping option on this item was Priority Mail, it did not have shipping to Germany offered. If you shipped to the Hub even though the EIS was not offered then you unfortunately refund the buyer 100% out of your pocket. At least you have the toy to sell again.
I do strongly recommend you remove ALL direct by you international shipping methods on ALL of your listings.
Don't offer both options. Just offer EIS and and then if the item is not allowed to be shipped to a country eBay blocks it.
eBay blocked EIS shipping on this listing for all locations that I checked. Most likely because of the title, it has to actually described the item. You can make a listing and then share the item number with a specific buyer.
Bottom line since it was delivered back to you and does not appear to actually have shipped with the EIS then you are going to have to refund the buyer 100%

OP4 months agoThanks again. I am living and learning. LOL. Last question. I agree that the listing only shows priority mail as an option, however, when I went to print the label the option for ebay international was there and that was what I chose and refunded the buyer the difference. The package did go through the ebay hub. Why would they allow that?
