Shipping rates for large heavy items

Question

I'm trying to get a shipping rate for a 1986 GI Joe Terror Drome. It's approximately 24x24x20 and around twenty pounds.

Why is priority mail almost $200 less than everything else? Doesn't seem right to me and I'm afraid that if I lost it as that, I'll end up having to pay a huge differential and will take a big loss.

A 20 LB package with dimensions of 24X24X20 is too large to be sent via USPS Priority Mail. If you are looking at the eBay shipping calculator it will show flat rate options, that may be what you are seeing. Your item will not fit in any flat rate package. Make sure to use the actual package information when doing your estimates.

For quotes on UPS and FedEx go to the shippers websites and do the estimate there to get the shipping rate for your listing. UPS and FedEx have lots of surcharges for large and heavy packages that the eBay shipping calculator does not always include. If you purchase through eBay it is just a quote and any difference in price will be charged to you as a rate adjustment after the package is delivered.

I put your package information into the UPS site and got a rate quote from WA to NY of about $208, this is similar to the eBay shipping calculator for a USPS ground Advantage rate. Shipping a package that size is expensive.
