Why do sellers over charge shipping rates on products?

Since 'shipping rates' includes both postage and handling fees ... including the costs of packaging materials, fees, and other costs related to getting items to buyers ... could you please define what you mean by 'over charge'?
Some sellers put some of the cost of the item into the shipping portion ... which is allowed. IMHO, we buyers need to go buy the TOTAL cost of the transaction, which is the combination of item and shipping costs.

OP3 years agoI also do shipping & handling so I know the costs involved. What I am questioning is why some sellers charge $30.00 for shipping & handling for an item when other sellers are charging $10-12 for the same item in the same state(s). I charge fairly for shipping according to the USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. rates + materials + handling. I don't try to gouge my customers. Just saying.
