Shipping Quandry
My customer purchased an expensive camera tripod and I wish to require a signature. He concurs this is a good idea due to the value. However, he likely won't be home when it would arrive and doesn't live with anyone else who would be there. He has suggested I might have it delivered to a UPS store (I want to ship the item UPS due to its length), but this is not the address he gave me with the order. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but is there any way for him to alter his address after the fact? I'm assuming if I ship to the UPS store location for him to pickup and sign for, I will be abandoning all eBay seller protections. However, if I ship without a signature, I'm leaving the package open to any porch pirate that comes along. Other than cancelling the order and having him reorder with a different address, do we have any other options? Thanks for your help.

OP3 years agoThanks. I was planning to buy through Pirate Ship (the buyer purchasing the label was never even an option)...and then discovered the lithium battery...which precluded me from using PirateShip with UPS (hazardous items clause). I ended up shipping through the UPS website with signature confirmation and got it scanned with claim forms and the whole nine yards at my local UPS store. Cost me $40 more because of that stupid battery! Live and learn.

OP3 years agoI think the buyer and I have come up with a solution. I would go ahead and delete my question, but I can't seem to find a way to do so. He is going to try and use UPS My Choice to get them to hold the package or possibly deliver to his nearby UPS Store for him to pick up. Therefore, the delivery will be between him and the carrier, and I can still ship to the address he gave on the order. The buyer has been fantastic to work with so far. I'm really pleased.

You will lose your seller protection if you don’t ship with signature confirmation.
You will lose seller protection if you let the buyer purchase the label.
Purchase your UPS shipping label through PirateShip.
