Shipping prices
Hello, is anyone having trouble with the shipping prices?
Example shirt i sold put in 7.95 for shipping. Of course I enter the exact weight and size of package which most of the time is 12x10x2 according to the clothing thickness. I go into the shipping calculator and put in the exact measurements and it gave me 5.45 so that is charging customers 2.50 over the true shipping cost.
I refund each difference because that is stealing from the customer. Is this something eBay has been doing forever or is it something new? I just recently started buying the labels online from them. Does anyone else check the calculator prices before they ship? I did contact eBya about it but no changes, so I assume it is a way to make more money.

eBay terms it "Shipping & Handling" meaning NOT just the price for the label, Sellers have materail costs, time to ship, etc.
YOU are charged eBay Fees on what the Buyer pays PLUS any sales tax on top of that paid shipping. If you refund the straight difference between what they paid and what you paid then you are losing money because YOU are paying fees on what they paid you to ship.
eBay is not who is doing what you describe, ALL shipping is determined by Sellers, period. eBay only generates the cost based on what YOU enter on your listings. You can offer a fixed discount percentage on this page if you want to reduce the overage your Buyers pay for shipping BUT don't give them too much because as mentioned, YOU are paying fees on their paid shipping cost. Additionally, when you sell something over $ 100 then you have to add insurance coverage out of pocket and cannot go back and charge the Buyer.
Some SellerS view shipping as an additional profit center

eBay does refund your seller's fees on the amount you are refunding the buyer.
The box to not show shipping price is on the page where you buy the shipping label near the bottom.

Pays to play with all the settings before you start selling. No, wonder my income went down 😞

You are more than welcome and yes, there is a lot to learn and when your profit goes down figure out why and correct it. eBay only cares about what they make, what you make is up to you.

OP5 months agoyes please, i did not even know there was such a setting. There is a lot I dont know, too busy i bet i lose a lot of money because of it too.

You can choose to have your buyers pay the same price for shipping labels as you do OR you can give the buyer a discount off of the retail rate price. I know some sellers do the discount off the retail rate price of about 20% ( adjust as needed). The extra payment by the buyer helps cover your sellers fees.
You can even charge full retail if you choose to do so.
Just be sure to NOT check the box on the shipping label form that says show shipping price.

Mentor5 months agoIn addition to the weight and dimensions of the package, you also have to consider the distance from your zip code to the buyer's zip code. When you look at your listings, you will see the cost to ship to yourself if you are using calculated shipping. If you enter a flat rate (same price to the buyer regardless of where s/he lives), you can be undercharging or overcharging the buyer.
