Shipping price discrepancies using the shipping only delivery option on a listing.
I recently sold an item, and the purchaser is giving me some complaints after agreeing and paying for the item related to the shipping fees involved. Essentially they checked with USPS on what the cost for the label should have been vs what eBay charged for it from the selling portal.
It doesn't feel like I have any options for this buyer other than to remind them that they did get the item for the starting bid price which was nearly half of my buy-it now price (which I would have much preferred to sell the item for) and that they are still getting a gently used item for a legit 75% off retail on a 2 year old motorcycle jacket.
Is my only option in future sales to just handle that shipping myself even though I'm only selling 2 items a year, or just chalk this one up to buyer's remorse, because I certainly have sellers remorse at this point.

First, on eBay it is called Shipping AND Handling and is not limited to just the cost of the label. "Handling" can mean packing materials, time and a trip to the Post Office which all costs money. Especially if you are shipping few items annually. You can use any or all of that in a reply to the customer if you want.
If your estimated shipping box weight and dimensions on the listing is fairly accurate and you use the Calculated setting the Buyer will see about the same from you as they do the USPS site. And just so you know, the shipping cost on your listings is determined by YOUR settings and eBay only shows costs based on what YOU supply.
Next, seeing you are a low volume Seller some Buyers will see if they can get some kind of a partial refund by complaining ... some newer and inexperienced sellers might fold and issue a partial refund.

OP11 months agoThanks Mr. Lincoln. That was my thought, I did measure and weigh the item while I was listing it in the box I shipped it in so I feel I did everything correct for this situation. I did make sure to get the extra insurance since the item price was over the included coverage.
And the buyer did express concerns about the shipping cost before completing payment, I'm much less surprised they contacted post receipt even though they expressed they are enjoying the item and it was in the condition they expected and did fit them as desired.
Guess I'll see how they accept the answer I gave them.
