Shipping miscalculation
@linkstomembers I have never sold an item on EBay. In listing the item, I wasn’t prompted to add details to shipping, therefore I didn’t make any adjustments for shipping in the listing. A buyer has made a buy for the item, but now the shipping costs exceeds what the item was sold , which would leave me in the hole. What are my options & what actions do I take (contacting the buyer, canceling the sale due to miscalculated shipping, refund the buyer, etc.)? Thanks in advance!

Mentor3 years agoWhen you create the listing, and select a method of shipping, there are fields to add the weight (rounded UP to nearest pound) and dimensions (rounded UP to nearest inch). If you select calculated shipping, the buyer pays the cost from your zip code to his zip code. If you are looking at the listing, you are seeing the cost of shipping from your zip code to your zip code, so buyer will be paying more. Depending on the weight of the item, shipping often does cost more than the price of the item.
You are located in Virginia. I looked at the item you sold, and shipping shows $6.78 to me in California. I believe that is way under what it will actually cost to ship that item. I suggest you use the CONTACT BUYER link in your sold transaction and let the byer know that you have to cancel the sale because you made a mistake. When you file the Cancel Order, select Out of Stock as the reason. That will record a defect on your account, so do not get another one, or your presence here on ebay will be a short one.
