Shipping Label More Than Buyer Paid - No Dimension Changes
Hello, I appreciate any help! I'm still fairly new with selling, but have had a few successful sales without this happening.
I just sold some boots, I listed the item with correct dimensions on the box and weight. I made no changes. I selected USPS ground advantage as I always do, and the buyer also selected USPS ground advantage. Shipping was calculated to be around $10, which the buyer paid. I went to print my label, but it showed it for $30! What did I do wrong? I did use promotions to help the sale. I'm willing to eat the cost as a learning lesson but I'd like to avoid it in the future. Thank you!

✓ If you give me the eBay Item Number for the listing, I can look at it and provide some advice.
Also what is the weight and dimension of the boxed boots?
Make sure these are set correctly
$30 seems very high for ground advantage unless they are super heavy or in a very large box

It is a pretty big box since it's for Hunter Boots.
Weight: 6 lbs Dimensions: 18 in x 14 in x 11 in
The package details are the same, non-hazardous materials and ships in a standard box.
I did put the same measurements in when listing it, so not sure where I went wrong.

This has 'flat' price shipping - it is $10.85 regardless of the zip code I enter.
Please us 'calculated' shipping so the rate changes base on the buyer's destination.
It's the box size that is causing the extreme price.
18x14x11 = 2772 cu inches
anything over
12x12x12 = 1778 cu inched gets a surcharge
If you can cut the box down, it will save you a lot of money
11" tall seems a lot, can you nest the boots and cut the box down to 6"?
Every inch will save you money
18x14x6 = $17.27
18x14x11 = $30.90

OP1 year agoThank you so much! I found a smaller box and brought the price down to about $17 like you suggested.
How can I make sure it's set to calculate shipping based on location when listing an item? I thought I listed it as that and not as a flat rate.

To get calculated shipping be sure to select this, *and* enter the correct weight and dimensions
And remember the less about box size, it is more the size of the box than the weight that adds up.

OP1 year agoI couldn't find your picture of domestic shipping anywhere in the listing page, and I noticed I was in quick tool listing. If I switch to the business tool on the top right corner of the page, it shows your picture and let's me make sure I'm able to select "calculated" for cost type.
