Shipping issue for a new seller. Please help!
Hello,
I'm new to selling on eBay, but I just got my first sale last Sunday the 29th. On the following Monday, the 30th, I printed my shipping label through ebay and took it to the post office. I asked them if it was correct and they said everything looked perfect. I have been checking the shipping updates each day and it said it should arrive at the destination by Thursday the 2nd. I sent the package from Kansas City to Dallas, TX. The tracking shows that package was in Dallas on the 2nd, then it showed nothing for the 3rd. Now it shows that the package arrived in Newburgh, NY, as of 12:11am on November 4th.
I'm very confused by the tracking and getting a little worried that the buyer will complain or give negative feedback, which is not how I want my first sale to go. I need help understanding what's going on so I can communicate that with the buyer before they get frustrated.
If anyone has any ideas, or an actual phone number I can call to talk to someone about this issue, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you!

Mentor2 years agoOften when you see odd things like that on the tracking, it is not the physical package actually going there - it is the computer putting the tracking # on the wrong list (manifest).
Go to usps.com and track the package, then request email or text updates so you see new activity right away. Don't be surprised if you see the 'package' back in Dallas, then in NY again, and back and forth again. The system is kicking it out as an error and reprocessing it. (I had one loop from St. Louis to someplace in WA 5 times, then get delivered in GA the next day 🙂 )
You could call your PO and ask if they have a way to get more info - they are usually very helpful.
Also at usps.com, check on when you can file a missing package report - I think you have to give it a week or 10 days.
I generally don't contact the buyer, I wait for the buyer to ask what's up. Then you can respond that you saw the unusual scans and are waiting for more info. You can then get a feel for the buyer's attitude towards waiting for the package. If cranky, propose a date, like 'would it be OK if we gave it until Tuesday? If not back on track, I can issue a refund then.'
You want the buyer to wait as long as possible before opening a not received claim, since then you have 3 business days to refund, or respond with tracking that shows delivery.
