Shipping Fees and delivery time
If the items we the buyer are purchasing state 1st class mail etc then why are the shipping fees so high? Why does it still take over a week to get to me? I use the postal service as well and no where near the charges on this site nor the time it takes to ship. Explain please

Unlike a lot of other venues … eBay sells nothing itself. Everything is sold and shipped by individual sellers … who set their own prices and shipping schedules, as well as pay fees on the item prices, shipping costs, and taxes that their buyers pays.
That may account for differences you are noticing.

Mentor3 years agoI've noticed shipping to Oregon and Washington is particularly slow right now. Don't know why.
The USPS has raised their prices 3-4 times this past year. Unless you are a seller, you probably don't realize that. Their prices are HIGH and their service is mediocre.

Mentor3 years agoAnd how. I mailed a small flat rate box yesterday and it was $10.20 ... in 2009 the USPS came out with the small flat rate box and it cost $5 to ship. The price doubled in 14 years. My pay check didn't double.

Don't know. Where are you and where are you mostly ordering from? If you're on one coast and most of your purchases have to travel all the way across the country, they could take longer. I'm in Nebraska and my domestic purchases have to travel only half way across the country.
The items I buy almost always arrive in less than a week. Long ago, when I began buying on eBay, I developed a "code" in my feedback left for the seller that indicated how fast an item was delivered. In those ancient days, you got an invoice and made the payment by mail, preferably by postal money order. In my feedbacks, if an item arrived within a week, I included VERY FAST in all uppershift letters; if an item arrived within two weeks, I wrote Very Fast in initial caps; within three weeks, very fast in all lowershift letters.
That system is obsolete now that we pay on line – in fact, paper payments aren't even an option – but for some reason, inertia I suppose, I continue to use that coding. Practically every item receives the all caps indication.

Mentor3 years agoFirst class package postage ranges from around $4 to around $8 depending on weight and distance. Most sells charge what you would pay at the PO. They pay a little less than this usually, but then eBay takes 13% of what they charge for the shipping. Plus there can be packaging materials and other handling costs - it isn't always just the postage.
First class mail generally takes about 5 days, but again depends on distance.
You'd have to offer a specific example to get a more specific answer.
