What is the deal with the shipping costs calculated by eBay being much lower than what they actually are at the post office?? For example, I sold an item that I had listed at 2lbs and would be using USPS Ground Advantage. When the item sold, it calculated shipping to the buyer at $7.67, which the buyer paid. I get to the post office with the item, and it actually only weighed 1lb 11oz, but the USPS Ground Advantage shipping cost was $12.30! I lost over $4 on this sale because of shipping cost being grossly underpriced to the buyer. What is going on?

Besides purchasing eBay labels to take advantage of your Seller discount, if you are using Calculated Shipping in your listings, you can opt out of passing that discount to your Buyers.
If you go to your Account Settings>Shipping Preferences, you should see the spot where you can opt out.

Mentor1 year agoAre you saying that you did NOT print the shipping label using ebay? You get a discount on shipping, which you can pass onto the buyer. It sounds like you had the post office print the shipping label, so you are paying the full retail price instead of the commercial price that ebay charges. The 1 lb 11 oz package is rounded up to 2 pounds for the weight.

The more expensive our mistakes, the better we learn our lessons.
The silver lining is that, when you do your tax returns next spring, you can deduct the full amount that you paid to the USPS.
