Shipping estimator tool is giving buyers the wrong information
I was selling a quantity of 5 items, all identical, and the shipping tool was giving hugely inflated shipping costs compared to actual shipping charges to a customer that was trying to buy all 5. They were wheels, and the boxes would be 20x20x12 and about 30 lbs. he sent me a screenshot of the charge he was seeing, $382 for all 5, when the shipping estimator tool is telling me about $100 for all 5. It was the same Fedex Home Delivery shipping I posted the ad with. I've been selling since 1998, I've never seen this before, is there possibly a glitch? It's like the system wasn't showing the ebay user discount or something.

Mentor5 months ago@35cents $100 for all 5 does NOT sound correct. Each box does have to have it's own unique tracking number. The shipping calculator is just combining the weights of all items, it does not combine dimensions. You can purchase up to 5 shipping labels per listing.
Keep in mind that shipping prices are based on package dimensions, in addition to weight, and distance to the buyer.

OP5 months agoYes, they are fairly heavy at 30 lbs each and will ship separately. I did figure out that it combined the weight of 5, so 150 lbs. Not sure why eBay can’t break these out, if the buyer is doing the purchase as a quantity of 5. In this case, the combined weight is more than 3x the cost of shipping individually.

Unfortunately it's not possible for combined shipping calculator to determine the shipping costs since it can only combine the weight.
eBay has no way to determine how you will combine the orders for shipping. In this case they obviously cannot be combined into one box..
I strongly recommend using UPS and not Fed Ex. While the shipping price may look less with fedex they are known to add surcharges and bill you later. UPS sometimes add surcharges but not as often as Fed Ex
