Shipping Damage - Or so I'm told
I'm a very new (inexperienced) seller. I recently sold a blu-ray and received a return request. All of my listings state that I'm not responsible for damage during shipping, and I take photos of the package before shipping. The return request states that the item was damaged during shipping, but the buyer only included photos of the blu-ray, not the packaging. I offered a partial refund, which the buyer refused. I had a bad feeling about this sell from the start - the buyer sent a message specifically stating to ship the item carefully. (I did - and would have without being told.) From what I'm reading, my only recourse is to accept the return and leave bad feedback - am I missing something? If I'm correct, is there any reason to include that stipulation in my item descriptions? Thanks for any help!

Mentor5 months agoEbay has a Money Back Guarantee for buyers if the item is damaged/defective/doesn't match description. If the buyer has filed a Return Request, you will be required to approve the request and either provide a return shipping label so they can ship it back to you for a FULL refund or you can choose to refund IN FULL without having the buyer return the item.

Sellers ARE responsible for damage that may occur during shipping, so sellers must use adequate packaging when preparing items for shipping.
Sellers are not allowed to leave negative/neutral feedback for buyers.

You’re basically reading it right.
If the return is for “arrived damaged,” you’ll need to accept the return and send a label. If you don’t, eBay may step in and that can affect your seller metrics.
I understand it’s frustrating that the buyer didn’t include photos of the packaging, but that doesn’t stop this type of return from going through.
Once you get the item back
-check that it’s the same item you sent
-inspect the packaging and contents
-take photos as you open it
If there is actual shipping damage, you can file a claim with the carrier using your photos and shipment details.
Also, sellers can’t leave negative feedback for buyers, so that part isn’t really an option.
If something doesn’t look right with the return or the item is not the same, you can respond in the case and ask eBay to step in and review it.
