Shipping costs
I recently listed some mugs, which were quite heavy. The buyers all selected USPS Media Mail/economy mail. I thought Media Mail was only for books, tapes etc. I had indicated calculated shipping. This economy shipping would have been half of what regular shipping would have been. The sales fell through but this shipping option totally confused me.
Is this economy shipping a special service of USPS? Why is it listed as Media Mail, but available as an option for other products. Should I not have included this as a shipping option?
i want to sell more, but can’t until I really understand shipping costs.

OP3 years agoSorry to bug you with questions, but how do you know your items won't cost more than Economy to ship?

Mentor3 years agoebay classifies shipping as standard, expedited, and economy. First class is standard, priority is expedited, and media mail, parcel select, UPS and Fed Ex are economy.

I am still confused about Economy. I didn't want to offer Economy shipping for my items because they were relatively heavy. I wanted to offer only Calculated shipping. Why is Economy offered as a default? The shipping charge for Economy would be half of what it would it would actually cost to ship.
I have heavy dishes to sell and I have to be sure of the shipping options before I list again.

Mentor3 years agoMost sellers would offer economy shipping (USPS parcel select, UPS Ground or Fed Ex Ground) for heavy items, instead of USPS priority because priority is more expensive but quicker delivery. If you are going to use economy shipping via the USPS, make sure you select parcel select and not media mail if the item does not qualify.
