Shipping costs
I haven't sold anything for many years. I am trying to figure out the cheapest way to ship fishing items. Most are under 1 lb. Are envelopes cheaper than boxes? If I box an item myself and take it to the post office, will i be charged based upon weight? What should I expect to pay to ship an 8 oz package, for example? Is it cheaper to package items myself or use the USPS priority mail boxes? Thanks for your help!

Mentor3 years agoUp to a pound ships First Class on ebay, but only up to 13oz at post office. Pack them yourself and print discount labels from ebay.
For 5oz-8oz with tracking retail is about $5-$6 depending on Zip Code. On ebay it would about $4-$5.

For small boxes or envelopes over a pound, consider a free PirateShip account to ship them Priority Cubic rate with shipping info import automatically from ebay.
Flat rate boxes are often the best deal for heavy items that fit one of the boxes sizes, otherwise UPS is better.
