Shipping cost to buyer more than stated in my ad/description
I sold an item and placed a flat rate shipping cost. Unfortunately, a buyer in Hawaii purchased it and it is a lot more money, meaning I will have to make it up out of my own pocket/profit. Is it common to contact the buyer and ask for more money? It's about $8.00 more that I will have to spend out of pocket. Thanks.

It costs no more to ship to HI from your location than it does to ship to CA (though this may change in the coming months).
You are not allowed to ask the buyer to pay more for shipping than what is shown in the listing. You will need to cover the shortfall out of pocket.
For the future, instead of using a flat rate, use calculated shipping based on weight, package size, and distance between you and the buyer. That way, each buyer pays the correct cost to his location.

OP2 years agoThanks so much! I decided to do just that ......to absorb the $6.00 myself. Lesson learned. I live on the east coast and 85% of my goods are sold to the West Coast. So, in the future, I will be more vigilant and will assume it will go further. I appreciate your response!!
