Shipping cost
I just sold an item on eBay. The buyer paid the estimated shipping cost of $8. The shipping cost actually costs $60. It’s a 14 pound item that fits in a 18x18x17 box. I asked the buyer if he wants to pay the correct amount and he said he can’t believe it costs more than $8. What do I do?

Mentor2 years agoThere are no "estimated" shipping costs on a listing. What is displayed is the cost based on the parameters you set. You're not allowed to attempt to charge the seller more than what is shown in the listing to his location. The buyer made his decision to buy based on that cost.

Mentor2 years agoGo to the sold listing and click to SELL SIMILAR and scroll down to the domestic shipping. Something is definitely wrong. A package that measures 18x18x17 is going to be charged dimensional rate, especially for a 14 pound item. Now cancel out of the relist.
You cannot force the buyer to pay additional shipping fees if you made a mistake. Since he won't pay, and you can't force him, you will have to file a Cancellation order for Out of Stock. Once that is completed, you can use Sell Similar to relist and make the necessary changes for weight/dimensions.

Mentor2 years agoYou made a mistake on your end, as a box that big will be charged dimensional weight, which probably exceeds the actual weight of 14 pounds. So offhand I'd say you did not enter the dimensions correctly.
Go check the listing by clicking Sell Similar (just don't actually post it). Scroll down and see what was entered for weight and dimensions.
You can not ask the buyer to pay more for shipping. You either eat your mistake, or cancel the transaction and take a hit on your account and have an unhappy buyer.
