Shipping charges fraud
How does an ebay seller protect against these fictitious post charges...sometimes a month after the buyer has the item. I triple check the weight & package dimensions and add a small amount for a cushion before printing the ebay shipping label. Now several times weeks after the item is delivered, UPS and USPS say the package weighed too much. I hand deliver the package to a counter person, they weigh it, and say nothing about the weight exceeding the label. (It is printed on the label)
This practice seems like fraud, add this to thousands of shippers and it adds up.

Mentor5 months agoDo they also measure it? Dimensional weight could be what you are seeing.

Mentor5 months agoHi @vogtjj
No longer a seller here.
It isn't eBay making the shipping cost adjustments, it's the carrier. eBay just delivers the message. In the message are instructions for appealing the cost adjustment if it's incorrect.

OP5 months agoThanks for the tip. I'm told if it's under $10 to "let it go". The shipper does this thousands of times and it may add up nicely. Also, I just had a package that USPS said the ULINE size stated on the box bottom was incorrect, which I used on the label, so I got hit with additional fee. Weeks after the package is delivered, there's no way to dispute. So it goes. Sellers beware.

Mentor5 months agoThe size on the boxes are the inner dimensions....so outer dimensions will be different.

I don't know why someone would tell you to let it go. That's your decision. The instructions for an appeal are in the email you received about the cost adjustment.
If your carton measurements are mismarked however, you should double-check the measurements with a ruler or tape measure so it doesn't continue to happen.

Mentor5 months ago@vogtjj. Box dimensions printed on the box are usually for the inside.
Measure the box in more than one direction as they are not always square.
Just adding info if you want to try and dispute Fed Ex or UPS surcharges. Only eBay can dispute the UPS and Fedex surcharges.
Only eBay customer service can file the dispute since they are the Fed Ex customer. I recommend contacting CS on social media to ask them to do this. Keep in mind that Fed Ex does sometimes add incorrect surcharges but there are CORRECT surcharges that you can read about on the Fed Ex website.
Personally if I have an item that is too large or heavy to ship via USPS then I use UPS and buy the label from PIrateship.com. Pirateship helps with insurance claims and surcharge disputes. UPS does have a list of valid surcharges on their website too. UPS does not add surcharges as often as Fed Ex does.
Social media is the best way to contact customer service for this issue.
Here's how to contact eBay general customer service. ( I feel that it's ok to use this option since it does affect your bottom line.)
Click this link> https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold?id=4814
Then Type PAYOUT In the chat bot box on the lower right.
Then AGENT after the bot responds. You might have to repeat those steps.
Or you can also contact customer service by sending a PRIVATE message on social media. Customer service verifies your identity before responding.
