Shipping Charges Error- Please help!
I just sold an item for $70. The shipping was calculated at $9.45. The buyer lives across the country. My item boxed is 1ft x 3x 3 and it weighs 20lbs. When I took it to UPS, they said it would cost $158 to ship it. I totally messed this up. I just messaged the buyer explaining what happened. Can someone tell me how to fix this?
Also if I'm only selling this for $70, why would anyone want to buy it if it costs that much to ship because it's so big? I'm confused.

Sadly you will have to ship the item as sold and eat the cost of your mistake. We see mistakes in shipping a lot from new Sellers until they figure it out. As a new Seller if you cancel using the out oof stock reason your account gets a bad strike on it and could possibly affect your seller level, which also is not good.
If the Buyer is understanding and agrees to a cancellation they will have to message you and ask you to cancel. Then instead of the Out of stock reason you can use the Buyer requested reason to cancel and not get a strike on your account.

OP5 months agoOk I messaged the buyer explaining what happened and asked them what they wanted to dobut I'm still waiting to hear from them. I would assume they will want to cancel. Thank you for your help.

Mentor5 months agoIf the item is heavy, regardless of the cost, and it is rare and hard to find, collectors will pay whatever it costs to get the item. Buyers will also pay big bucks to get an item that is no longer made if it is needed to fix whatever they have.

1) You'll need to cancel the order for 'Out of Stock'

2) Don't use eBay estimates for shipping. Always, always enter the weight and dimensions of your packed item, and use Calculated Shipping.
3) the buyer bought, because it was under $80, shipped to their door.
4) If you buy your shipping labels on eBay, it will cost less the the USPS counter price. Thus having a tape measure and scale is critical to selling.
