Shipping charges
Summary: fox-2001 sold a silver teapot for over $1000 on eBay and is facing issues with shipping charges. The buyer was charged $8.18 for shipping, but the actual cost including insurance and signature on delivery is $28.29. fox-2001 has asked the buyer for an additional $20.11 but has not received a response and is unsure about how to proceed with shipping the item.

I just sold item 198573614492, a silver teapot, for more than $1000 but I am confused about the shipping charges.
Ebay charged the buyer $8.18 for shipping together with the purchase price. However, when I tried to buy a shipping label, the price specified was $12.33. Also, because of the item's value, ebay strongly recommended paying for shipping insurance and a signature on delivery, which raised the shipping costs to $28.29.
I have written to the buyer to explain the situation and have asked that they send me $20.11 (viz 28.29-8.18=20.11). However, I have not heard back from the buyer and do not want to ship the item until I do.
How should I proceed?

Mentor2 weeks agoI am sorry this happened but eBay policy is that the buyer does not have to pay any additional money once the item has been paid for. If you used calculated shipping on your listing then some entry you gave was not correct. If you entered the actual weight and dimensions of the packaged ready to ship item then the calculation should be correct. Yes, for any purchase over $750 you need to have signature confirmation for the package. Since most shipping services only have $100 of included insurance you need to add additional insurance to protect yourself. Buyers have the eBay Money Back Guaranty for their protection so you need to protect yourself with insurance.
