shipping charges
I am pretty new to selling on ebay and I'm a little confused about shipping charges.
So I input the weight and measurements of the item. System calculates a shipping range . I usually list the highest from calculated range but I have had a few instances where ebay has actually increased the shipping charge above what I listed.
Example:
I input weight and measurements and the system calculates a shipping range of $4.50-$5.89.
So in my ad, I list shipping as $5.89.
I sell the item and the buyer pays the shipping that I list in my ad - $5.89. But then in my final payout from ebay, they show the shipping was actually $8.50 - so I'm deducted the additional $2.61 for the increased shipping amount.
Why? Does this happen often? Is there something I should be doing to make this NOT happen? I don't want to decrease my earnings because I miscalculated shipping.... but I figured it has to be correct since I input the info into the system and it generated the shipping price.
If anyone understands what I'm getting at please let me know your experience. I'm probably doing something incorrectly. Any assistance would be wonderful. Thanks and have a great rest of the weekend!

Mentor4 months agoInstead of entering an amount for shipping, select Calculated Shipping. Then ebay will use the weight (rounded to nearest ounce/pound) and dimensions (rounded to nearest inch) from your zip code to the buyer's zip code.

Mentor4 months agoYou don't need the buyers zip code. When you use calculated shipping it calculates for you based on that and the buyer pays accordingly.
With your example what happened is the shipping you were shown in the estimate is for first class which if it's that patch it would qualify for but there would be no tracking and you can't print the label from eBay.
In the listing you put that price for USPS ground advantage and printed the label for that service which is a higher price.
