shipping charges
I sold an item. Buyer paid shipping charge. eBay is taking that full charge out of my funds. I haven't sold in years, so I am confused.

OP5 months agoThat does make sense. However, it doesn't break down correctly according to my calculations:
Item sold: $290.00
Shipping: $ 12.48
I get charged (if I read it right) 15% on sale.
Ebay comes up with $239.99 (closing funds)
I get $258.98.
Is sales tax involved in the deduction of closing funds perhaps?
I'm not stupid. But this does not compute.
Appreciate the help.

Final Value Fees are charged on Price + Shipping + Sales Tax
Here are some sample numbers which might be helpful:
Example $290 price + $12.48 shipping + $28.00 Est Sales Tax = $330.48 Total paid by Buyer
You get $290 + $12.48 = $302.48 (eBay handles sales tax)
- $49.98 (Selling fees $330.48 x.15 = $49.58 + .40 = $49.98 -- 15% is the FVF for jewelry)
- $12.48 (Shipping whatever the ACTUAL label costs.. could be $4.50 or $15.00)
$240.02 Net to you. -- pretty close to the 239.99 - difference may be the sales tax rate which I estimated.

Your "available funds" are a running total, so there may be fees from other listings and sales intermingled. Each payout can cover multiple transactions.

From your gross sales (Price + Shipping, if any + Sales Tax) eBay will deduct
Sales Tax (remitted to the state)
Shipping labels
Final Value Fees FVF
Insertion fees (if any)
Promoted listing fees (if any)
Store Fees (if any)
etc.

OP5 months agoThank you for breaking that down for me. Makes mathematical sense so I learned something new today.
This was my first sale in about 8 years. They didn't used to figure in for taxes, but I think most selling sites do now as the laws have changed.

When "the Buyer pays for shipping", that money is given to you/the seller.
- Then you pay for the shipping label.
- The amount the buyer pays for shipping could be more or less than the actual final shipping cost, it is based on the settings chosen in your listing when you created it.
- The amount you pay for shipping is based on the actual final shipping details you enter before you click to print a label.
Be sure to always enter the correct weight and dimensions when you list your item.
You'll get the buyer's payment and buyer's shipping money in your payout.
