eBay now requires sellers to purchase delivery confirmation with ground advantage when I sell an item over a certain. Why is this?

@thbco Are you referring to the eBay Standard Envelope? It is only for items $20 and under. If the sale ends higher then you do have to ship using Ground Advantage.

Also on sales that are $750 or more a signature on delivery is required for seller protection proof of delivery. This has been the policy for a very long time.

As I said in my post, I was referring to ground advantage. A reasonable percentage of my sales are well over the $100 insurance that comes with the shipping charge. I purchase private insurance when the item is over a certain amount, so the signature requirement is just a waste of money. My objection is not just the cost; experience has shown me that more times than not the postal clerk don't bother to get the signature, so it's a total waste of money. Even worse, an eBay generated label with "signature required" on it tells everyone that handles it that what's inside the package is valuable.

@thbco So sorry, my sleepy eyes skipped over Ground Advantage.

As my fellow Mentor @glorybells said you must have signature on delivery to qualify for seller protection when the sale, with tax, totals $ 750 or more. If not you will lose your item not received refund request.

You may not be aware that eBay has added a new seller protection for item not received refund requests if you use an eBay shipping label and have to refund a buyer.
