Shipping charged the customer and was deducted from my funds
Hi! I am needing help understanding why the customer and I are both being charged for shipping. Example:
I sold an item for $40. The buyer/customer paid $40 plus $9 in shipping for a total of $49. I understand eBay takes their percentage and final value fee from the $49. But I also have a transaction showing it deducted the shipping from my funds as well. Yes, my funds were on hold for 2 days because I am a new seller and waiting for the item to arrive. The funds are no longer on hold. I talked to eBay customer service but the person I talked too, wasn't helpful in my eyes because they kept talking about the final value fee and the on hold aspect. Literally the customer was charged $49 which includes the shipping, why would I have a transaction showing the $9 in shipping being deducted from my funds as well? Can someone help me understand?
Thanks!

The buyer pays eBay the total amount for the item, shipping and any taxes.
eBay calculates the fee based on the total amount. The fee is removed and retained by eBay. Sales tax is sent to the buyer's state government.
The remaining amount, including what the buyer paid for shipping is given to the seller. From that amount, the seller can purchase shipping.
The seller has to be the one to purchase shipping because the seller is the one with a package that needs to be shipped.

OP1 year agoWouldn't I get the funds back once the item is delivered? If not, isn't eBay being paid twice for the shipping? If the customer was charged for the shipping, paid it, then I, as the seller, paid for the shipping and the item was delivered.. that means eBay has the shipping paid by the buyer and paid by the seller.
thank you for helping me understand

Mentor1 year agoeBay is being paid once by the buyer.
You are being paid once by eBay.
The shipping service is being paid once by you.

OP1 year agoI am still not understanding. If the buyer is charged for the shipping, why is the shipping being taken from me/seller as well. It should just be cancelled out. Can I email you directly and or can you message me directly from eBay so that I can take screen shots and show you?

Mentor1 year agoThe nine dollars that buyer pays for shipping goes from the buyer to eBay, then from eBay to the seller, and then from the seller to the shipping service. So the money used to pay for shipping has come from the buyer.
