shipping buy paid is too low
I listed items for sale and it had it so buyer would pay shipping. ebay only charged 4.14 and when I box up the items it shipping cost goes to $68 based on box size. I can switch to UPS ground for $24 but how does it work?
Does the buyer pay the difference? Do I cancel the order? Any advice is welcomed. Thanks, Dan from Michigan.

·2 years agoIt seems you may not have entered the actual weight and dimensions for each item when creating the listings. The carriers have something called "dimensional weight" for large boxes that are lightweight; and the post office has an additional surcharge for long boxes. When I look at your ended items, I see shipping to the West coast at:

Your first two are going to be underpaid and you will have to come out of pocket for any difference in shipping. The buyer is not required to pay any more than is displayed in the listing, so the buyer won't pay the difference. As a seller, you are required to ship items based on the prices in the listing. You could cancel the sale, but will suffer a strike for doing so. You could live with your first one, but two might be a problem. Strikes roll off after a year.
First, I would recommend that you test the rates by decreasing the long side of your box by one inch (if you have one inch to spare on that side). You may be surprised how little change is required to drop the rate on dimensional weight. If you have more time than money, cutting down boxes can save a lot. If time is money, then pay the money and keep the premade box.
If you choose to use a lower, cheaper service, you may be dinged for the item not arriving on time. Buyers expect to receive the level of service they see or specify in a listing, and keeping customers happy is important to selling. Sometimes, we have to write off learning experiences as the cost of entry into the world of commerce.
Those two Postal ground shipments could be sent via UPS ground, as long as the buyer address is not a PO Box (some buyers are particular about a delivery service, and will purchase based on the carrier, so check with your buyer). To send UPS ground, first make sure that you have access to a UPS drop-off location near you. Or, if you regularly see UPS trucks cruising your neighborhood at particular times of the day, you could flag one down and hand over the pre-labeled package. As a last resort, you can schedule and pay for a pickup on your credit card, but you're already underwater on this.
UPS labels are not charged until used. With a UPS label printed on eBay, that charge will appear on your eBay account after UPS scans your package parameters and delivers the item. That means you may see an adjustment if you didn't account for a bulge in the box or forgot to round up weight or dimensions.
