Shipping an item in an envelope
Buyer request cheaper shipping. I expained ebay wants us to send Ground Advantage.
The item fits in an envelope but there is no option to print a label for the item because it is not a sport card.
The item can be shipped non machinable. All three items I shipped this way were delivered and the buyer was happy but I get a ding for not loading tracking. How can I push charging them 8.50 to ship a doll dress when I can charge them only 1.75 to ship non machinable. They dont want to pay 8.50 to ship. I wouldnt want to pay 8.50
The buyers are happy and I get a ding for not loading tracking.

Mentor4 months agoThe problem is that eBay requires you to have a tracking number to prove delivery to the buyer. Without the tracking number the buyer would win any case for an "Item not received" even if they actually received the item and you get a defect for not shipping within your handling time. First Class Mail does not have tracking so you cannot purchase the label through eBay although you can say you are shipping by First Class Mail in the listing. Only a few categories allow the use of the eBay Standard Envelope and there are specific requirements the packaging must meet to use the service if it does qualify. One of the problems with the Standard Envelope is that it is considered as metered mail by the post office and it can only be scanned at special sorting facilities so many times there is no actual tracking of the envelope and sellers end up refunding the buyer.

OP4 months agoI sent three separate auction in an envelope and I had no problems. One left me feedback and another said she got the item and thanked me for offering the lower shipping rate.
I took it to the post office and they charged me metered mail because of the contents and marked it such.
I sent the buyer a photo of the receipt.
Why would ebay still ding me for it. I thought they contact the buyer with a message or text to ask if they receive the item or doesn't positive feedback from the buyer mean anything.
Ebay makes it harder to sell small inexpensive light weight items. They made all the changes for Sport Cards.
And to top things off: Post office rates went up another 8% this past Sunday.
Its really hard to justify charging 8.50 shipping for a dress for a tiny doll you sold to them for $3 just so I have tracking and insurance which is Ground Advantage.

Mentor4 months agoeBay uses tracking information to determine shipping times and delivery. They do not contact the buyer to see if the item was delivered. Feedback does not prove delivery since years ago sellers would make buyers give positive feedback prior to delivery on the threat of the buyer receiving negative feedback. This is one of the reasons that buyers cannot receive any feedback other than positive feedback now. Metered mail does not have tracking unless it is the special form of metered mail that they offer to eBay and some other sites. You cannot purchase this kind of metered mail at the post office.
