Shipping
This is my first time ever selling anything here on eBay the buyer paid shipping and I was provided with a prepaid shipping label, but it was listed for only 3 pounds. However the package actually weighs more than that. How do I go about correcting it and paying the difference so my buyer doesn’t have to pay any more than was requested for shipping in the original offer?

Sellers have to pay for their own mistakes in the area of shipping and we see that here on a very regular basis until they figure out the shipping end of Selling online.
Charging Buyers for shipping is the right approach but the other piece of that is to have accurate package weight and dimensions on the listing so Buyers pay enough for you to ship without losing money. Obviously you cannot go back for more money.
Here is what you need to do, on this page use the drop-down menu on the left and scroll down to Cancel (the label you purchased). You have 28 days to do that and your account will be credited in 21 days or less: Track and manage your shipments
Next, on either that same page OR back on the sold item use the drop-down menu and purchase another label with the correct package weight and size. Tracking will be uploaded to the sold item for your protection. Print the label, affix it to the package and ship it out.

OP5 months agoThank you. Yes I wanted to make sure my buyer would be protected from any up-charges. I agree that I was (unintentionally) at fault and I just wanted to make it right before shipping out so that usps would not return to sender and cause a delivery delay for my buyer. Integrity is important to me. I appreciate your feedback and I don’t mind paying for my own mistake.

When you print your labels through eBay and you under pay or over pay postage what is "supposed" to happen is the APV system between eBay & USPS either charges YOU for the additional shipping cost so the package is not delayed OR issues you a credit sometime after the package is successfully delivered. I have received both credits and an occasional additional charge over the years.
Having said that, some Post Offices on under paid shipments form eBay Seller who have actually purchased their labels through eBay is to issue a Postage due ticket for the Buyer to pay before they can get their package PLUS the Seller is charged. It is USPS double dipping when that happens.

Mentor5 months agoYou cannot ask the buyer for any more money for shipping than what is shown on the listing. If it was your mistake, you pay the difference. When you go to print your shipping label, be sure to enter the correct weight and dimensions of the package, and ebay will calculate the shipping according to that information.
