shipping
Hello,
I have 2 questions regarding shipping. I have many items listed individually on ebay and they are all individually boxed. Periodically I get a transaction where ebay has combined two orders into one. I need to know how to prevent this because I end up having to rebox both and end up losing bigtime on shipping.
Secondly I have most items listed as USPS priority mail . Most items are in a USPS priority mail box so they have to go priority. Many times the buyer picks ground advantage and then I have to rebox the item and ebay seems to penalize me for this. Long and short I am losing on shipping.
Lastly, I have numerous charges for outstanding shipping labels on my monthly statement, it gives an I.D. number but nothing else explaining this. I would like to understand this better.
Thanks in advance.

If you use Priority Mail boxes but print a Ground Advantage label through eBay then the APV system between eBay and USPS will charge your account for the additional postage. Priority Mail boxes are charged their specific rates based on the box size.
Don't pre-pack your items, get some plain brown boxes that will hold 2 or 3 items and wait for multiple orders. You have sold 27 items in the last 90 days, that's about 1 every 3 days, not high volume so I suspect there would be time to pack things when they sell and ship within your Handling time.
As @wooden_flower mentioned, you can set up Combined shipping, I have mine set to ADD all shipping costs and then I either refund the overage or on auctions I can send an invoice combining the shipping accurately before they pay. I use Calculated shipping so Buyers see what it will cost to ship to them.

OP1 year agoGood morning and thank you for your input. I thought the best way to handle sales on ebay was to have them prepackaged, maybe that's not true. A different person suggest I not prepackage anything, unfortunately I have 2-3 to 3/4 of all my beer steins already boxed. some in regular brown boxes, many in Priority boxes. The post office told me that if I send something ground advantage in a priority box it would be postage due at delivery, which wouldn't work. I don't know how to add shipping after sale, I've never done it that way. You said anything under 8 dollars was ground advantage, is that an Ebay policy or just happens to be the way I set it up?
On my full monthly statement, after shipping label details is a page labeled Charges, it has a date, an I.D.Number and details, which it says "charge for outstanding shipping label cost".
Looking for suggestions
Thanks

The charges you get each month that you sell something is because you are not using the Priority boxes correctly when buying Ground Advantage labels for them.
I have over 350 items and not a single one of them is packed ... I wait until they sell and then pack them. That is how most Sellers do it.
You need a scale so you can learn how to get the weight of the item and a box then use the Calculated setting on the listing. You need to be able to estimate the final box size for shipping and put those dimensions on the listing so Buyers see exactly how much THEY have to pay you to ship the item to them.

OP1 year agoThank you for your input, let me attempt to implement and i might get back with you with other questions. I know better than to put a G/A label on a priority box, wish I could get better explanation of those charges.

You have many of your items listed with ground advantage. You can read through your active items and spot them - anything under $8 is not listed as priority mail.
You can set up a combined shipping rule to not combine shipping. You set the rule, then you have to add the rule to your items. You can do this with bulk edit.
To set the rule, go here - https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf - first edit combined payments, select 3 days and save (3 days is enough and won’t change your 4 day unpaid item window). Then select edit next to calculated shipping rule, and select no discount.
Is the ID # a tracking #? I don’t know of any other ID on a label. I also don’t understand what you mean ‘outstanding’. How is a label outstanding?
