Shipping
The item I sold was supposed to be sent with a standard envelope. Now the buyer wants a more expensive shipping which is worth three times what I'm getting for the item. It's only one baseball card. I don't feel I should be on the hook for unnecessary shipping

You do not have to upgrade the shipping for free.
Explain to the buyer that you are not able to offer a free upgrade, but can cancel his purchase and relist it with a choice of shipping methods. He can then select the shipping that meets his needs.
