I was able to put an item into a smaller box so i edited the shipping cost which went down but ebay charged me the original calculated cost as if i hadn't edited. is this ebays normal practice, if you save money on shipping they get to keep the extra?

Shipping cost is dependent on the weight as well as the size of the package. Even if the size of the box is smaller, if the weight does change dramatically, then the cost would not change. For example, a box that weighs between 1 lb 1 oz is going to cost the same as a box that weighs 1 lb 15 oz.

OP2 years agobut the edited recalculation showed that the price that the usps charged for the label was less than the original but i was still charged for the original calculation when i looked at the selling costs. I guess i should have purchased it on pirateship

Seller Hub > Orders > Paid & shipped
Locate the order, click on Order Details. You should see the shipping amount the buyer paid, as well as the shipping amount that was charged to you. I often have to change the package size due to bubble wrap/etc. and I see the shipping amount increase, or decrease, and that is the amount that ebay charges me.
