Shipper is eBay not seller.
Summary: 2cureat expressed frustration over a broken item shipment, purchased via eBay, where FedEx requires eBay to file claims. They struggled with contacting eBay and felt caught in a loop between eBay and FedEx, questioning if this benefits eBay financially. profitweb added that shipping insurance often doesn’t cover such issues unless packed by a professional and emphasized the difficulty of claiming without extensive documentation. mudshark61369 clarified that FedEx is the true shipper, advising against mentioning the use of external label purchases when filing claims. comics-scifi-collectibles noted that claims under FedEx Ground Economy are particularly challenging, offering detailed guidance on the claim process.
Bought my fed ex label through eBay; makes ebay the shipper. Double boxed, packed secure, labeled on all sides fragile. FedEx says eBay to file claim not me.
There is not a single option on eBay to choose when the item is delivered broken.
Spent 3 hours hunting a way to talk to eBay they assured me refund would be three days on third day called again they assured me refund would be three days later.
Buyer asked for partial refund of $25. Auction was 100% for charity.
I went through this before in January because post office said was shipped through FedEx. FedEx said it was shipped through post office. The label was confirmed to be mailed through FedEx after three months of going round and round. No one did anything eBay simply said go to the shipper and the shipper said it's not us.
I know my package is not the only damaged one so is this just eBay's way of making more profit?

Mentor1 month ago@2cureat I am betting that you shipped with Ground Economy. It is one of the worst for paying claims as they will say the item was damaged while USPS had the item for the final delivery.
Filing a FedEx claim
If something goes wrong with your delivery, you can file a claim with FedEx. For all services except Ground Economy, please visit FedEx to file and manage your claim.
If you used FedEx Ground Economy and your package is damaged or lost from the time it’s first scanned by FedEx until it's delivered to a USPS facility, FedEx Ground Economy is responsible for a maximum replacement value of up to $100 plus transportation costs.
To submit a Ground Economy claim, go to the FedEx website, and download and complete the ‘FedEx Ground Economy Claim Form’.
Once submitted, the claim resolution process takes approximately 4-6 weeks. FedEx will email you about the status of your claim. Approved claims are paid to you by check.
With FedEx Ground Economy claims keep in mind:
Only sellers can file claims
Claims must be filed within 90 calendar days from when FedEx receives the package
FedEx may reimburse the wholesale cost up to $100 per package, plus shipping charges
Claims payments are remitted by check
You can find more information about the claims process in the FedEx service guide

"Bought my fed ex label through eBay; makes ebay the shipper"
No it does not!! FedEx is the shipper, ebay only is the method of paying for a FedEx label, like Pirate ship and other online independent postage selling services. When you file a claim you should use the shippers online system, which does not ask who you bought your label from. Do not call them and say you bought the label through an outside source, since they will try to prevent paying for damage caused by them.
"Double boxed, packed secure, labeled on all sides fragile. FedEx says eBay to file claim not me There is not a single option on eBay to choose when the item is delivered broken".
Before choosing a shipping service, you should check the shipper's site for what your protections are for damaged in shipping claims and if you need to buy insurance as part of the postage cost, for the item or it is included and up to what value.

I hate it when this happens.
Shipping insurance (really Declared Value) isn't what people think.. I learned this the hard way.
This case is practically never covered by insurance UNLESS you had a professional, like the UPS Store, pack it up. It's their catch 22, IMO.
Shipping insurance is only useful, in my vast experience with it, in 2 cases:
Carrier loses package
Carrier notes packages was damaged during transit
I have run up this hill hard... several times. Provided details of the compliant packaging used, only to hit walls and learn. If you had extensive documentation before sending, like photos of the packaging inside & out, the shipping label on it, and pic's of the damaged box, packaging, and item, you might have a chance. Who has all that though?! Shipping insurance rarely ever applies.
Claim would be filed with FedEx, but you usually need to create a FedEx account AND explain it was shipped via eBay... I think I had to get eBay's FedEx account # to make the claim.
"Insufficient Packaging" is the most common reason they deny claims. My solution... I stopped shipping certain items (like kitchen sinks that got damaged in transit too often) and improved my packing of others (double box/huge amount of bubble wrap securely taped around item (I could drop it without issue), etc..

OP1 month agoI used them in January and nobody could figure out who lost the package so I still didn't get paid.
