Shipped item thought to be lost, buyer has now received. How to get refund back.
Hi all, I've never posted here before but I find getting a live eBay person on the phone impossible and I've went through the ebay help section 100 times without success. Summary: I shipped a $150 item to a buyer. After 3 weeks there hadn't been any updates on the USPS tracking. I was in communication with the buyer and he had been watching the tracking as well. We both thought USPS lost the package and I started a USPS claim for lost package. That claim was denied as they said it had not been long enough yet, however, still no updated on tracking. The buyer started he needed the item and the money for the item to use to replace the order. I refunded him. This was a 100% refund including over $14 transactions fees which were charged to me regardless of refund. And the shipping label (I offered free shipping). All and all with label and transactions fees, I'm out nearly $200. Well, the buyer had been watching the tracking and yesterday told me that after 3 weeks it was updated as being in his state and today it's out for delivery. He needs the item and wants to complete the transaction and reverse the refund/ pay for the item. How can I get this resolved? I can't even get in touch with an ebay representative and this serves to help them because they have other fees that were reversed with the refund as well. Thanks.

Mentor2 years agoOnce the transaction is complete, you are allowed to ask for buyer's email address to see if they will pay you.
In the future, always put in a claim with the carrier. At 21 days the claim will be paid, whether the item is later delivered or not.

OP2 years agoOk thanks for the info about the email. It's out for delivery now. I do have a usps claim and they sent me a update before this tracking randomly reappeared after 3 weeks saying the package wasn't lost. Then several days later it's resurfaced. It left florida and wasn't scanned again for over 3 weeks. Now today scanned in Missouri. 🙂 what happens to these packages? Hoping this all works out. Currently down nearly $200 😞

Mentor2 years agoWhen you issued a full refund, ebay should have credited back the FVF that was charged. Since the buyer has not received the item, he can reimburse you for the refund by sending the amount to you via Paypal. You can send him your Paypal email address and he can use the SEND MONEY option in Paypal, or you can ask for his Paypal email address and you use Paypal to REQUEST MONEY.
ebay cannot help send the money back to you.

OP2 years agoEbay kept the "ad fee standard ". I was under the impression that if I had the buyer use PayPal outside of ebay or even put it in my messages to the buyer, I could get suspended or in ebay trouble? It would help to talk to eBay but it seems impossible.
