Shady Sellers
Summary: medal_3733 shared their experience of winning an auction on eBay, only for the seller to cancel the order falsely claiming a refund was requested. A participant suggested that some sellers cancel transactions when they are unsatisfied with the sale price. disneyshopper provided a link to report the seller for policy violations, explaining the process to highlight this issue to eBay. comics-scifi-collectibles clarified that eBay has updated the reporting option to 'Suspicious activity.'
I won an auction through eBay and within 30 minutes of submitting my payment the seller canceled my order claiming I requested a refund. I certainly did not. Googling what to do in this situation since I could not find a way to contact the seller or get a hold of the eBay support team it said that sellers often do this if they are unpleased with the amount the item sold for. Can they do this? If they wanted a certain dollar amount for it then why not just list it for that price? What do I do? I won the item and now the seller will not respond to my messages.

1. Select The seller has violated one of eBay s policies and click Continue.
2. On the next page, enter the seller's ID and select Other.
3. In the comment section, write "Seller cancelled order stating that I requested the cancellation in order to avoid a defect and then relists that item as an auction for more money" . Include the new item number.
Sellers who cancel transactions for Out of stock receive a defect. Too many defects and sellers can be restricted or suspended.

Mentor3 weeks ago@disneyshopper I just wanted to clarify that eBay changed the option from violated one of eBay's policies to Suspicious activity. The Violated eBay's policies is no longer an option. The report result is the same.

Yes, some Sellers who do not know how to determine a starting auction price that covers their Cost, eBay Fees and target profit margin will cancel if they do not get enough.
Obviously, they are lying about the reason for the cancellation. There is not much you can do.
