Selling on ebay
I am a longtime ebay user and in the past I sold on ebay as well. However when you cut Paypal out of the picture I stopped selling. I do not want to give ebay my SS#.
I was told at the time that ebay would not just hold my funds for use in future ebay purchases as Paypal did. Is this still the case??

Mentor3 years agoThe SSN is a federal requirement for tax purposes.

Mentor3 years agoMany sellers are given the option to pay for eBay purchases with sales proceeds - it is called spendable funds. But - you have to be set up to receive payments before this may be an option.
If you want to sell here, your SS# and checking account are mandatory.

Buyers’ payments are sent to a checking account that the seller has designated for that purpose. The funds would have to be transferred to another account if the seller wants to use them to pay for purchases.
eBay is required to collect sellers’ SSN so that sales over a given amount can be reported to the IRS.
Our SSN is how we prove our identity. Shoot, it was part of the information requested when I visited a new dentist recently.
