Selling on ebay
I am trying to understand why anyone would want to sell anything on ebay. I recently made 4 sales and the first item sold for $110 + $10 S&H +$9.90 tax for a total of $129.90 for the customer. 1st the tax should have only been $9.08. Second ebay calculated there fee @ $129.9x13.7% instead of ($110x13.7%). Third > nothing ever adds up but I kept getting msg that I had $95 on hold and when I finally got my funds from 1st sell deposited I found out only $76 was deposited and that was due to the fact ebay already withdrew the S&H and the FVFee from the other 3 sales that were in transit without so much as an invoice or anything notifying me of such plans, I had to click atleast 5 links to find the details. Next issue is I made a sell for under $10 and ebay took 57% of the profit and i of course received 43%. Lastly Ilisted 113 for sale and I promoted about 105 roughly and two days later I went thru the listing and only found 2 of my listing I paid to promote. I unlisted all 100+ listings I still had for sale w/ebay and I will never list anything for sale on ebay again. Idk why anyone would continue to sell thru ebay. Am I missing something or is ebay less than transparent ?

That sounds frustrating. It does take time to learn the ropes.
1) Sales tax is paid based on the Buyer's location and the buyer's state rules.
2) Your expenses are paid out of available funds.
3) It is indeed annoying to pay eBay FVF on the whole buyer's payment, including shipping and sales tax, but that is part of the way it works.
4) It's hard to make money on items under $10 because of shipping costs, but if it's the golf balls, USPS took a lot more than eBay did on those sales. Still, I list some inexpensive items, and make it attractive for a buyer to purchase multiple items, then it works better.
5) I only do promotions that pay if my item sells.
The reason people list on eBay is because it has the most buyers of all the seller platforms. I sell 20 or 30 times more on eBay than what sells on other platforms.
Your "available funds" are a running total, so there may be other fees from other listings and sales intermingled. Each payout can cover multiple transactions.

Sales Tax (remitted to the state)
Shipping labels
Final Value Fees FVF

OP5 months agoThank you eastlaneave, I appreciate your information. your info is helpful, I just dont agree with charging me a final value fee that includes the additional FVF for sales over $10 along with the sales tax and also S&H that is money that has nothing to do with me. As far as what the PO charges the seller covers that fee. It has been a few yrs since I last sold anything on ebay but it did not used to be like it is now. It used to be totally transparent and ebay took their money at the end of each month after I had already received payment from the buyer and they have released the funds to me. I realize that we have evolved as a society and as such so have companies. I saw no warnings about selling items for a particular amount is not recommended and i simply assumed that the promotional fee would be fair. Is the promotional fee the same fixed amount for a $5.00 item as it is for a $100 item or is it a %. I thought the first 250 listings each month were free but thats not hardly true is it. What about me paying to be promoted and when i searched 2 days later I found 2 of my listings out of 108, what am I paying for. And the sellers hub is a waste of information, just give me the have to have info on the 1st click. You are right I am basically just a beginner here now and if you find it beneficial to sell here then thats your choice and I wish you all the best. I don't see how it could benefit me so i am tapping out.
