selling multiple items

Question

i am a seller with a message from a potential buyer. they have put several of my items in their cart, but are unable to request a combined total from me (combined shipping discount). why are they unable to request a total and how can i help them in this.

i have no way of identifying the items they wish to purchase, only that they are similar items from my book inventory. (could be diff. weights, size, etc.)

Whether I put two books or 5 books in my cart, the "request combined shipping" option is disabled with this message: "You can't request combined shipping because the seller has already offered a discount for these items."

Each item in the cart is labeled: "Save up to 10% when you buy more. Increase your item quantity to qualify." I'm not sure what that threshold might be.

5x Book total is $28.40

5x Shipping total is $23.55

If it will take too long to figure out more complex shipping discounts, I would recommend that you offer to refund excess shipping.
