Selling for an estate
Hello all i was selling items for a late friends estate and now being told I need to file a 1099 form for items that weren't even mine which is **bleep**. Does eBay have a customer service number? I have the obituary from his passing and he was also a seller on eBay

Mentor3 years agoIf you sold the item under your own name and SS#, you have no choice but to deal with it on your tax return.
If you were selling for a friend, you gave them the net proceeds, correct? If so, you were selling the items on consignment to you. Since you have 0 profit, you will not owe any income tax, but you have to show the income and then the expense on your tax return.
eBay can not change this - it is federal law.
