Is your vehicle pre-1980, not originally made for street use, or manufactured outside of North America?
If so, it may have a "non-standard" VIN - See #2 below
1) If your VIN is rejected, it may be because:
- There was a typo in the info you entered. For example, a zero (0) may look like the uppercase letter "O" so double-check your entry
- You left out a number or letter. A VIN has 17 characters so make sure it’s complete.
- The vehicle’s model year is older than 1981, which doesn’t have a standard VIN
- The vehicle was made outside the US and wasn’t intended for use in the US
- The vehicle is a "kit car" or a limited production vehicle that doesn't have a standard VIN
- The vehicle’s title status is incorrect when you list it. For example, if the car is salvaged and you list it as something else, it may be rejected.
2) If you entered the correct VIN and it’s still rejected, follow these steps:
- In the listing form, select the vehicle’s year from the Year drop-down menu.
- Enter 17 zeros in the VIN field. Seventeen 0
- In the item description, you must enter the following information or the listing may be removed:
-- The vehicle’s actual VIN
-- The reason you listed your vehicle using all of the same number in your VIN
- AND include a clear photo of the VIN plate in the auction.
Policy: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/vehicle-parts-accessories-policy?id=4293#:~:text=If%20the%20VIN%20isn't,intended%20for%20street%2Dlegal%20use
“If the VIN isn't recognized by our systems, the VIN MUST be included in the item description with an explanation as to why it wasn't accepted, such as:
- The vehicle was manufactured for a model year before 1980
- The vehicle was manufactured outside of North America
- The vehicle wasn't intended for street-legal use”

OP2 weeks agoThe problem is the vin number. You say a vin number is 17 digits. that is not true. the model A Ford vin number is simply A plus the production number of the total car production. The first Model A would have a vin number A1. My car was over the 350 million made Hence the vin is A35xxxxx eight digits. So ebay does not know what they are doing. I have sold many vehicles on Ebay and this is the first time I have been required to provide a vin number. There is not one here to talk to, so I suppose it's Auto Trader for me.
Thanks

John I am a person.
Your car is pre-1980. This method works fine:
- Enter 17 zeros in the VIN field. Seventeen 0
- In the item description, you must enter the following information or the listing may be removed:
-- The vehicle’s actual VIN
-- The reason you listed your vehicle using all of the same number in your VIN (ie: vehicle is pre-1980)
- AND include a clear photo of the VIN plate in the listing.
