selling
I sold an item only to see that my money is being held hostage unless I give them my SSN which they never needed before, I accidently put in my dads number(similar name looked at wrong info) and there is no way to cancel it or resend. I tried to contact them on phone but all I get is this AI crap. I even concidered canceling the order and refunding but would that even help? This is the last time I deal with ebay it's to much hassle when it used to be simple.
questions are
1) will refunding the money do any good?
2) will the feds be knocking at my door over this mistake

Refunding will not help since you must fund the refund - eBay will not use the buyer's payment for the refund.
If eBay is not able to pay you for your sale, the funds will eventually be transferred to your state as unclaimed. You would then have to go to your sec of state's website to find their process for claiming your funds.
You could try asking customer service for assistance in correcting what you entered.
Here's how to contact eBay general customer service.

3. Answer the chat bots question by stating what you need help with.
4.Type AGENT ( you may have repeat steps 3 and 4)
5. Request a call back or live chat. (Note that the contact options vary depending on the topic and staffing availability)
