Sellers Using Make Offer but their system is automated to only give 5% discount
I have a problem with Sellers using the Make Offer option but their system is automated to only accept 5% or lower discounted offers. What's the point of Make Offer if it's only 5% off. I would assert that most negotiated discounts are always in the 7-10% range. I wasted a lot of time trying to negotiate an Offer only to have every one rejected because they were above the automated 5% threshold. I believe any Seller that isn't willing to accept more than a 5% Make Offer discount shouldn't be allowed to use that feature. Just keep it at Buy Now.

What I believe is that the likely result of a [ 7-10% ] requirement like you propose would be that the sellers just raise the initial price of their items 5% to correct for an arbitrary threshold.

OP1 year agoThat may be true but 5% on a 9$ part isn't worth the "Make Offer" hassle. 5% on $500 makes a bigger difference. Just my opinion that if the item is priced under $50 a 5% threshold on Make Offer shouldn't be allowed. Seller should be willing to negotiate better terms.

I have an inborn antipathy to being dictated what I am "allowed" to do with something that belongs to me, with exceptions for certain things that fall under natural law or the golden rule. Obviously YMMV. Good luck.

OP1 year agoYes, I agree with you that sellers should have full control over how they sell their product but from a "buyer's" perspective, submitting 5 offers (the last one being very reasonable) and then getting locked out, it left a bad taste in my mouth and I certainly have the right to select another seller. I just don't know why a seller would put a Make Offer on a $10 part and only accept 5% off. Just sayin.....
