Seller's Fees on Sales Tax
I've been on eBay a long time and sell things sporadically. I recently started paying close attention to the fees eBay charges and noticed they are charging fees based on the total sale amount including sales tax. I know they added shipping costs to the fees years ago, and I understand why. Have they been charging fees on sales tax since they initiated sales tax? Does this seem fair to you? I'm sure there is nothing we can do about it, but I wanted to ask. Thanks. Frank

eBay began charging fees on tax when Managed Payments took over processing buyers’ payments from PayPal for each individual seller.
Payment processors typically base their fees on the total amount of buyer’s payment … without regard to the individual components. PayPal’s fees were based on tax we well.
I believe you’re correct in your opinion about whether any change being likely. ☹ï¸

They and other venues charge fees on the total purchase including sales tax. 5 states have no sales tax. They've been doing it for a little while.
