SELLER WON'T REPLY TO HONOR WARRANTY
I Bought a (new) rack and pinion back in November and it already failed. It leaked all the power steering fluid and my van has been parked for a month now. I contacted the seller at the beginning of this month (May 2025) and he is ghosting me now. He had offered a 20% discounted price for a new one and for me to keep the old one, but so far he has not responded again after that. This item is advertised with a 1 YEAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY....
I contacted EBAY and they said they would look into it, but I haven't heard from them either...What now? Am I really stuck having to buy a 300 USD part AGAIN? This seller is a drop shipper. He has good reviews but I just noticed he has some really bad ones, too.
I need my van and I am stuck having to pay for another part plus labor, AGAIN?? TIA...

If there was a warranty, the consumer (you) would have had to have purchased from an authorized dealer. Then, you would have had to register your purchase with the manufacturer, and finally, had the part installed by a manufacturer approved company.
Who knows, maybe it was installed incorrectly.
The efforts of ‘this group’ will appear useless if the Original Poster isn’t prepared for the hard answers.

OP1 year agoYes, I understand the warranty is for the item and not the seller. With that said, I can't get any help from the seller to reach out the manufacturer or anything. That's the least he could do ,and not ghost me.
I can't find the option anymore to leave a review about this, but it needs to be known.
Other reviewers were about different things he sells as well, so the items were easy to detect if they were faulty or not, and they were within the timeframe to leave reviews.
I actually do expect a positive answer because the seller is advertising the 1 yr warranty, which if it is not the case then it becomes false advertisement. The FTC has a very clear explanation about this.
Ebay is not getting back to me, so that's another issue. Extremely shady from both parties.

Ebay did nothing wrong. Ebay cannot review every single listing for the veracity of the information the seller includes in their listing.
Buyers need to assume that there are no warranties on purchases made on Ebay unless the seller is an authorized seller for the company that manufactures the item.
Ebay has a 30 day Money Back Guarantee (not a warranty).

OP1 year agoHow are you a mentor but don't know that EBAY actually does help buyers settle issues with sellers? I just got off the phone with them 'again' and they are reporting the seller for the second time. I am not asking Ebay for a warranty, I am asking Ebay to step in bc the item has a 1 YEAR WARRANTY and the seller is not honoring.
Buyers don't need to assume anything, we go by what's listed.
Sellers need to Learn the FTC rules before posting 1 YEAR WARRANTY bc if you don't honor it, you are falling into false advertisement, which is punishable.
So many doing drop shipping and don't even understand this can actually bite them in the rear end.
This is just basic information everybody should know.
Dropshipping involves legal risks related to product quality, intellectual property, and compliance with consumer protection laws. Dropshippers are responsible for ensuring their suppliers adhere to legal standards, as they can be held liable for issues like counterfeits or product defects. Additionally, dropshippers need to comply with advertising regulations, tax obligations, and data protection laws.

Excuse me but I DO know what I'm talking about.
Ebay does not deal with warranties. They do have a 30 day money back guarantee..
Customer agents usually tend to just say what they think the member wants to hear in order to end the call.
claudiamax0609
OP1 year agoI never said i wanted Ebay to honor a warranty.... not sure where you keep getting that from.... I am asking Ebay to step in to get the seller to actually honor what he had said he would do.
This group is worthless.

As previously stated, eBay cannot force the seller to do anything outside of the money back guarantee. Sorry you don't like our answers but we presented the facts.
claudiamax0609
OP1 year agoI'll tell you what the facts are.... we have criminal activity going on right here on Ebay and we are all supposed to suck it up. FALSE ADVERTISING and selling defected items is a crime. THOSE ARE THE FACTS. That sellers on EBAY want to cover for each other acting like it's not a big deal, is a different story.... Chinese junk, Ebay is full of Chinese junk. I won't let that dude get away with this and I will keep bugging Ebay for my records.... sooner or later there will be enough cases to file. Ignoring a customer the way both (ebay and the seller) have been doing, is not acceptable. Selling junk and offering warranties they are not willing to fulfill, is a crime.

eBay or the FTC punishing the seller -- if it even happens at all at this point -- will not actually help you, though.
What would have helped you is actually understanding how eBay's money back guarantee works and what it does and does not cover, so you would know that an eBay seller claiming that an item has a one year warranty is not something that is enforceable by eBay after thirty days, and that in many cases only the manufacturer's authorized dealers are able to offer valid warranties to their buyers, and that most manufacturers don't honor warranty claims except to the original purchaser with proof of purchase, and such warranties are not transferable when an item is purchased on eBay or anywhere else outside a retail transaction.
And a manufacturer's warranty is worthless if you don't actually know how to contact the manufacturer or make a warranty claim. The time to get help from the seller with warranty information is within the first thirty days of purchase so you have recourse through eBay if the seller does not help you.
So many doing drop shipping and don't even understand this can actually bite them in the rear end.
This is just basic information everybody should know.
I think you mean: "So many [buyers buying from unauthorized sellers] don't even understand this...."

OP1 year agoI wasnt asking for Ebay's 30 day money back .... read what i posted again. If Ebay has sellers posting garbage warranties, then Ebay should look into it.
This is obviously not going anywhere with you ppl....don't bother replying.

Mentor1 year agoIf Ebay has sellers posting garbage warranties, then Ebay should look into it.
You keep talking about what eBay should do. eBay should do a lot of things.
You are being told what eBay will do: which is nothing after thirty days has passed. The time to get eBay to do something is before that deadline, not after. You have thirty days from receipt to determine if the seller is providing an item with an actual warranty or to determine if the seller is just providing lip service and to get your money back.
Knowing that most warranties are not transferable could have helped you avoid relying on the unenforceable advertising claims of an unreliable drop-shipping seller in the first place.

OP1 year agoOne with thousands of 'good' reviews and a long time selling on Ebay?
IM DONE.....
I know what I have to do... Y'all keep lying to yourselves.... I know the law.

Mentor1 year agoManufacturers warranty items not sellers unless the seller is an authorized dealer for the manufacturer. You are long past the eBay Money Back Guaranty so all you can do now if you are within 180 days of payment is to go to your payment source and ask for a charge back. You can check with the manufacturer to see if they will help but do not expect a positive answer.
