Seller won't give refund for item returned unopened. eBay not honoring "Money Back Guarantee"
First purchase I've ever made on eBay.
I purchased a $760 part for my car. After ordering and paying and after the item was shipped, I was informed I'd have to pay an additional $330 duty fee.
Based on the exorbitant duty fee, I no longer wanted the item. However, the seller told me they would not refund my money, even if the item was returned unopened.
Because I declined to pay the duty fee, the item was never delivered and the shipper automatically returned the item to the seller intact, unopened. The seller still refused to give me a refund.
I opened a case and an appeal with eBay. eBay said there was nothing they could do about the seller refusing to refund my money. They also said I didn't qualify for eBay's "Money Back Guarantee" because the item was never delivered to me and I wasn't the one who returned it (DHL automatically returned the item to the seller because I declined to pay the duty fee). They said if I had paid the duty fee and THEN sent it back myself, then I would qualify for "Money Back Guarantee"). That explanation makes no sense to me.
I have proof from DHL that the item was returned to the seller unopened. It shouldn't make any difference how it made it's way back to them.
Any thoughts on what my options are? At this point, the whole thing feels like a scam.
The seller has the item and they're simply refusing to refund my money (without providing any justification. Basically, they're keeping my money because they *can*. Zero accountability).
