Seller won't communicate collection address but has kept payment
I'm feeling sore. I bought a sink; collection only and £150 paid via PayPal. Despite several request from me, the buyer won't respond. Without knowing the address, I cannot collect and eventually gave up and asked ebay to return my money. They tell me that they sent the money to the seller after 30 days, even though their system noted the sink had not been collected. Ebay say that I cannot claim my money back but I think that I ought to qualify because there never was an "estimated or actual collection date" so the 30 calendar days countdown never did start. I hate to be scammed by the seller. I now see that they have duped other buyers in the past and ebay had to step in to recover the payments. I'd like to sue the seller, but ebay won't release any of the necessary details, like real name and address. I'd like to write to ebay to state my case, but all they have done so far is to message the errant seller (without getting a reply) and to tell me the seller will contact me (they haven't). Where to I go from here?

OP2 years agoGood point. When ebay turned down my request for a refund, their agent suggested that I try PayPal, the source of my payment. When I tried my luck with PayPal, they referred me back to ebay . With a touch of whimsy, having explained to ebay the seller never responds to messages (I'd sent 9), ebay told me they had sent the seller a message and I should be hearing from the seller shortly (I've heard nothing since). So, I tried PayPal again and found there's an option not to be referred back to ebay but to open a case staying with PayPal, which I've done as of 3 days ago. PayPal required proof of my communication with the seller. Luckily, I had copied ebay messages into my e-mail file and was able to copy and paste the correspondence. Despite a career as a computer programmer many years ago, it took me a while to move the Word file from an icloud, convert the file type from docx (refused by PayPal) to pdf format (accepted by PayPal). My case is now under consideration by the PayPal Resolution Center - they say they will let me know within 5 days what happens next. As I say, wish me luck.
Finally, I have appreciated the input from Lady Madonna - a calm voice of sanity which has encouraged me to feel less aggrieved over my failed purchase.

Good luck with the Paypal dispute, hope you get your deserved refund!

OP2 years agoMy initial, knee-jerk reaction to Lady Madonna's reply was to think:
a.) the UK does not have it's own community forum and the US one was offered to me,
b) there are fewer differences in what action might usefully be taken in the UK as opposed to those available in the USA than you might think. I thought that taking a wider, Worldwide view would be of value.
On further reflection, I can see that if I took my own medicine at point b), I too should see the bigger picture. I realise that, given much of the huge issues throughout the World - climate change, Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan and so much more - that I'm silly to be losing sleep over being scammed for $200. Lady Madonna helped me get to that conclusion and I am grateful.

Have you contacted your payment source to get a refund? (i.e. Paypal, bank, credit card company)
