Seller wants me to request a cancellation
A seller wants me to request a cancellation. They say that they sold the item elsewhere. Should I comply with the request? Don't they have a way to cancel the sale from their end without me request the cancellation? I was really looking forward to the item and was wondering if they were just doing it because the item didn't sell as high as they hoped.
This is the message I received:
"Unfortunately This item is no longer available… it has been sold previously. Please refer to additional listing notes, advertised locally and subject to sale prior to close of auction
Please request a cancellation and we will immediately refund"

The seller is trying to avoid earning a well-deserved defect on his record for not completing the sale. You might respond in this way...
No, I want the item I purchased. As you know, if you are not going to send it, then you'll need to cancel using the reason that the item is out of stock. I expect to see that refund come through today without further delay.
Misrepresenting the reason for the cancellation will be reported.
Note that if the seller does relist at a higher price, you can report that as well.
