seller shipped after agreeing to cancel - now I'm facing $72 in import fees. what should i do
Summary: base-to-grail-sports-collectibles purchased a trading card from a Canadian seller for around $90 and requested a cancellation ten minutes later. The seller initially agreed to cancel, but the order was shipped, and the buyer now faces $72 in additional import fees. They are seeking advice on how to handle this situation through eBay to avoid affecting their money-back guarantee protection, without falsely claiming the item is damaged.
I purchased a trating card from a seller in Canada for around $90. Shortly afterwards like 10 min later, I requested cancellation. The seller initially indicated in a message that they were okay with cancellation of the transaction. The seller initially indicated in a message that they were okay with cancelling, but the order was not cancelled and was later shipped.
I'm now being told I may have to pay approximately $72 in additional import/duty/ brokage fees when the package arrives. That's nearly 80% of what I paid for the card, and I would not have completed the purchase had i expected an additional charge anywhere near that amount.
My original cancellation reason was 'ordered/ purchased the wrong item" so eBay treated the cancellation accordingly. I'm not trying to falsely claim the item is damaged or not as described just to force a return
what is the proper way to handle this through eBay before delivery? I also don't want to simply refuse the package if doing so could affect my money back guarantee protection. Please help

eBay's "canned" reasons for requesting a cancellation or filing a return are limited in scope considering all the different reasons for either a cancellation request or filing a return. Did you really purchase the wrong item?
If you refuse the package then you will lose your eBay Money Back Guarantee, the item will be returned to the seller and they will be under no obligation to refund you. In most cases nothing sent in eBay messaging is binding so even trying to get eBay involved may not help you.
You may have to pay the $ 72 and then try selling the card to cut your loss unless it is not as described or is damaged in shipment (thus necessitating a return).
