Seller sent a token item to fraudulently show that the item has been delivered
Seller shipped a fake item to show on eBay that the item has been delivered. The actual item purchased was not delivered. eBay will not allow me to return the item and refers me to the BEPP (business equipment protection program). And when I enter all the information for the BEPP claim, eBay does not recognize the order number.

File a claim through the payment processor.

OP1 year agoI did file a claim with the payment processor. That ended up being the easiest route. I was hoping that I could just return the item that he sent because it was in a small package and easy to return. But eBay wouldn’t allow it. The return policies with eBay seemed to have gotten much worse.

Mentor1 year agoWhile it is always best to file the claim through ebay first, you have to be very careful of the rules, selections, and deadlines to do so, especially since there is no redo for mistakes. While the final recourse is to file through the payment processor, which is usually successful, it also blocks you from going back to ebay for help or getting the seller penalized for creating the problem in the first place.

The issue seems like it’s going to be fine bc PayPal is handling it but eBay should have better solutions for things like this. It’s pretty easy to mail anything and scan the delivery code and pretend you sent the item. I spent 2 hours on the phone with 4 different eBay agents and they had no solutions. This should be an easy problem for eBay to handle.

I see that the item was listed in Business and Industrial by a seller Located in China. It does say it's shipping from China. Business and Industrial is a category that is sometimes abused by bad sellers as it doesn't have the eBay Money Back Guarantee. That's why you received the not covered message. Always look to at the listing and make sure it says the item is covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Normally I would have recommended returning the item but since it wasn't covered by the eBay MBG AND it had to go to China ( which MUST ship Priority to have proof of delivery) it becomes much trickier.
Looking at the listing I can't tell what it was for. I only see a black card that says VIP. Was there an image when you made your purchase?
I am trying to report the listing but need to explain the reason I am reporting, other than the bad seller.
You can also report the seller using this form> https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022 Violated one eBay's Policies> other Then say in the box what happened and share the item number. Keep it brief as AI reads these messages on the first go around.

OP1 year agoThank you. The items I purchased are industrial items. I purchased 4 danfoss SH300A4ACA compressors for a commercial chiller that provides air conditioning for large buildings. Each compressor weighs about 300 lbs so the entire order is over 1000 lbs. I agreed with the seller before purchasing that he would ship via sea freight the 4 compressors on a pallet that is about 4’x4’ and probably 4’ tall. The seller sent a package that was approximately 11â€x7†that you could ship a magazine in that weighs about 1 lbs. The eBay listing said I could return the item but it wouldn’t allow me to return the item. It would have been much simpler to just pay the shipping for that small item and return it. eBay needs to work on its policies for situations like this. I am thankful that PayPal made it easy. Thanks for your help.

I agree that it can be easy to miss that the eBay Money Back Guarantee is not mentioned on a listing. Be sure to read the details of a listing carefully so you know what protections eBay is offering for the purchase.
