Seller sells crap and then hides behind ebay who is protecting them
I bought an item and then asked the seller to return it. He/she became very unprofessional but said that if I returned at my expense and paid him 4 dollars for his "free" shipping he would refund. I agreed to do this and he then quickly closed the request and ebay will apparently not let me show where he said he would do this and will not let me show my side.
I have bought over a thousand things on ebay and have a 100 percent approval rating which apparently means nothing to ebay. What can I do? I am not going to roll over and let them get away with this.

You handled this all wrong.
You needed to file a Return Request, and if you had a reason covered by the Ebay Money Back Guarantee, the seller would have been required to provide a prepaid return shipping label in order for you to return the item.
Then if the seller did not cooperate, 4 days after filing the request you could have had Ebay step in to help you get your refund.
Whatever you and the seller discussed or agreed to in messages in non-enforceable.

OP2 years agoWell, I am old fashioned in that a mans word is a mans word. I can take care of this but I wanted to give him every opportunity to settle this in a dignified professional manner.

I believe more in Ebay's Money Back Guarantee rather than a "man's word". Call me old fashioned, too.
I am not going to believe a stranger that's a seller telling me to do something outside of Ebay protocol.
Good luck.
