Seller Seems Shady
I recently purchased an item that costs nearly $300 from an overseas seller on December 28, 2025. Last week I contacted the seller to find out when I would be getting a tracking number. I received a message from the seller that they had a warehouse fire and had fallen behind in shipping. I express concern about the fire and asked when I could expect a tracking number. Now the seller has told me that they have fallen further behind, they are having trouble cancelling the order and I should cancel the order. I don't know whether the seller is telling the truth but I do know that if I do the cancelling their stats are not affected. I would like other potential buyers to know that there is something up with this buyer but I am more concerned with my cancelling the order will come back to bite me. Is there any chance that I can be on the hook for this purchase if I cancel the order? I do have the message from the buyer asking me to cancel the order but eBay has become a humanless enterprise and I don't want some automatic response or a bot finding me at fault and making me pay for an item the seller clearly can not deliver on. If anyone has any tips on how to speak with a human at eBay that also would be helpful.

Mentor9 months agoI would not ask for a cancellation. Let the seller file the cancellation for Out of Stock.
Go to your Purchase History and locate the purchased item. What is the last estimated delivery date? You have up to 30 days past that date in order to file an Item Not Received case, to get your money back. Once you file, the seller has 3 days to provide a tracking number that shows Delivered or issue a full refund. If the seller does neither, on day 4 you return to the case and click Ask ebay to step in, to force a refund.
If it is past the 30 day limit, you will need to log into Paypal and file an Item Not Received case there, if that is how you paid, as they allow up to 180 days from date of purchase to file, to get your money back.
If you paid with a credit card, file a charge back with your credit card issuer.

OP9 months agoThanks for the tips. Item is supposed to arrive no later than 1/15 according to the original purchase info. Nothing from buyer since I purchased the item on 12/28 until I reached out asking for a tracking number, then got the warehouse fire story. I will wait until the 15th and file an Item Not Received case.
